As others said sensitive data should stay forbidden.
In my opinion other leaks like core changes, lua scripts etc. should only be allowed if the project itself is already dead/not in active development anymore.
Otherwise it could lead to people trying to get clout by actively attacking community projects.

I feel like they should be allowed, just take action when it's serious like containing usernames & passwords.
Because when it actually hurts innocent people; and can be harmful for them - feel free to remove it.
But when it hurts one developer, or a server owner... I mean, you allowed your work to be stolen, trust no one, you've learned a lesson.
Surely we've all enjoyed a leak here or there.

Here's a leek.

Also sucks when people like @Jens here who was paid for his fixes still decides to leak the entire source of a project.

In my opinion I don't think leaks should be allowed. By allowing them you bring more negativity to the forum, is that really what we want here?

Hazor sold the WoD core I spent time and effort on for $2500 without asking lmao, it wasn't even his core to start with.

None of this means anything. There's no "leak", it's all under free open source licensing.

Leaks should and will be allowed, end of story.

Did you bother to read the license for a source that you were working on? He didn't technically leak anything. You all were breaking the license. I'm no lawyer and even I can see that any and all WoW emulation code based on OPEN SOURCE code carries the same licenses.

Vanilla, TBC, wotlk, cata, mop, wod, legion, bfa, shadow lands, and even dragonflight. PLEASE, go read the license. Also even if the license were to be changed to fit your narrative: have you heard of abandonware? You have no claim or entitlement to whine and make a fuss. Just be better educated moving forward.

@Jens "leaking" more like sharing the source with the community was a HUGE win and a step in the right direction. It is people like you(not you directly or specifically) that contribute to the retardation of WoW emulation's progress. So kindly take a step back and stop being selfish. It was not and is not being used by anyone. Try visiting serenity-wow's website. Take a look at their discord.

Have a great day.

I agree there should be a limit; however, people attacking community projects are always going to happen regardless of a rule on a community forum. Just look at WiFiHaxr or whatever their name is. I will also refer back to 2014 - 2016 There were a small group of individuals who made it their goal to infiltrate and get as much as they could from WoW Emulated Servers. They shared, sold, leaked, etc. Do you think a Community forum's rule would have stopped them?

People don't really attack for clout unless they're targeting multi-million/billion-dollar companies. See "Lizard Squad." That's in my opinion a silly argument to make(Not calling you silly btw). I can say with 99% certainty that no one is going to go attack Kaev-WoW with 2 players for clout. The security is most likely minimal and what message does that really send?

Personally Identifiable Information(PII) should be protected, you are correct.

Yes, I was giving an example of the same exact thing happening to me. But you don't see me complaining. I support open-source on all projects because, if it were like that in the first place, we'd have decent servers immediately, not have to wait 3 years for fixes to catch up.

Obviously it wouldn't be the only reason and obviously it also wouldn't stop them but stupid people will do stupid things for the slightest bit of reputation. It has happened a lot in the past and it will happen in the future. Even small servers with <50 players face ddos and other attacks. If it would only happen to multi-million+ dollar comapnies we wouldn't discuss this topic here. People just shouldn't get the platform if they're hurting projects that are still active.

Well. That's a different attack. Servers with 0 players get DDoS attacks. I may have been too broad or vague in my original post. My apologies.
