Over the months, our Discord has served as a hub for discussion, information sharing, and camaraderie among our members. However, we have been contemplating a potential change that we believe could greatly benefit our community. We are considering relocating our Discord server into a chatbox integrated within our forums.

Why are we considering this change, you may ask? There are a few primary reasons behind our decision. Firstly, by integrating the chatbox into our forums, we aim to reduce the influence of third-party communities. While we appreciate external platforms, we believe that having our communication centralized within our own ecosystem fosters a stronger sense of unity and community spirit.

Secondly, this change would allow us to offer increased privacy and security to our users. By bringing the chat functionality into our forums, we can ensure better control over user data and maintain a more secure environment. Protecting your personal information and privacy is of utmost importance to us.

Now, before implementing this change, we want to hear your thoughts. We value your feedback and want to make sure we are making decisions that align with the desires of our community. We have prepared a poll to gather your opinions on this potential transition to a chatbox within our forums.

Please note that as part of this change, access to the chatbox will be limited to individuals who have a valid Solar and Cosmic Upgrade. This ensures that those who have made a significant contribution to our community can continue enjoying the benefits of communicating with the community.

Additionally, we would like to inform you that we have plans to release a dedicated desktop app in the near future. This app will provide you with a seamless experience, whether you choose to communicate via the chatbox on our forums or directly through the desktop application.

Update - 05/07/2023

We'll change the requirement to access the chat box, you will need to have at least 25 Posts before you can access the chatbox.
However, there will be chat rooms only for premium users. The general chat will be most likely for everyone with 25 Posts.

Therefore, you'll not have to upgrade in order to have access. This is due to the fact, that if people who don't want to upgrade, still have the chance join us on the chat box.
In case the community votes for yes.

Note: We will monitor every post and eventually add a Spam System that alarms us when a low quality post was made (For example "thanks", "lol".. etc)

I'm thinking of a chatbox like emucoach uses in the top of the website, where we only see it when we log in.

but it's perfect as it is now, i'm all for the best and most for the community.

Could you please provide more details and examples about the impact of third-party communities? I've heard the chatbox suggestion before, but I thought the main purpose was to increase forum activity. I don't see any explicit mention of that reasoning here.

I like being able to interact with others using chat. Given that I don't belong to either of the mentioned ranks, it is currently not in my interest to support the switch to a chatbox.

Based on this reasoning I would advice against developing such an app. If we end up switching to a chatbox, the reasoning should be to increase forum activity and expand content. The time spent on app development may be better utilized in those areas.

I think it could work well, although I'm not sure about limiting it to certain ranks. My suggestion is archiving the Discord server (keeping the chat history intact, but restrict sending messages) and implementing a chatbox on the forum that is accessible to all registered users, regardless of their rank.

You’ll be trading members activity on discord for a chat box where people that cba to read 5 minutes tutorials will ask questions.

honestly I think it would be a mistake, I don’t think we should be trying to separate from discord to try and make the forums more active. I believe it would probably have more of a negative effect, then it would do any good.

I only see the chatbox as something people would say "Hi" in and nothing more; therefore, making it redundant. Since you cleaned up Discord as strictly a discussion and playful hub, the forums will continue to do its job as intended. Activity comes with time, SEO, etc - don't ever think Discord is stealing the show because it's not.

perhaps scale back the discord? Remove a majority of the channels and that'll be that?
