I have always hated that you can ONLY get the best gear for PvE via raids, which in turn locks lots of players out from reaching their classes' full potential. I had this idea: What if you make raid gear dropable from normal max-level mobs at a low drop rate? That way, people who just want the best gear in the game could farm mobs for it or do raids, where the chances would obviously be much higher or a rather normal drop rate for raids.

So, since this won't be a big change but simply a pain in the ass to add to all these drop tables, would it be something anyone here would be interested in if a server had this change?

It's a pretty open-ended question, but I considered working on a server like this. I don't really want to use my time on it if no players want it.

Leave me your feedback on this or even other ideas... If you are up for it, we could team up and work on a server together; I'm all alone on this journey, so meeting new people would be nice.

Personally, the feeling of waiting a week to get your item to drop and win the roll is much more rewarding than farming and grinding mobs even if it takes a while.. It also helps with not getting burnt out of playing, once you have achieved a toon that is fully geared, it can become boring to do anything on it and feel burnt out cause you have nothing left to aim for except for helping out raids, etc.

The idea does not sound too bad and is possible... It's just if people will play it, is the question. I am a Classic enjoyer from all patches of the game, so this is just my point of view from raiding weekly on Vanilla still, to this day.

Maybe others will feel differently, and comment on their view.

I appreciate the feedback, and I can totally see your viewpoint. I have always found it annoying to have to wait a whole week for the next raid, and on top of that, I may not have enough players to do the raid on the reset day.

Do you have any other ideas for achieving something like this, where you could still get raid gear or something as good as raid gear from the open world? Trying to find ways to implement it in the best way possible, so all ideas are welcome!

You could undo the lockout mechanic and allow the raid to be done sooner, or anytime. That would allow people to gear quickly, and still allow them to raid the raid to get it and still have the satisfactory feeling.

Yeah, that could be done, but I am more looking for a way for players to get that kind of loot solo so that some people who like to play alone can still enjoy the raid gear.
However, as you suggested, a good first step would be to remove the lockout mechanic.

My next suggestion for the solo aspect then, would be to.. make it difficult but obtainable through a means that does not make actual Raiders not wanna play your server.

A couple of ideas:

#1 - Mob Farming with a drop chance equivalent to some items in Classic for professions, like 0.2%. And mob difficulty and type should be equivalent to Dungeon Elites, which can be solo'd by many classes, 1 at a time.

#2 - Quest series custom-made to earn a 1 slot piece, per quest. Making it a grind to get the raid-level gear, at the cost of time.

There are World Drops. I think the gear that comes from bosses should be significant, unique, and themed. For the most part, items are themed to the raid they come from and most items make sense dropping from the boss they do; however, some have no business being on the loot table.

Could there be a world set? Absolutely. This is perhaps a good idea for a new type of server and progression line. Raids shouldn't be hard, but there should be something to do while we wait for their release. Perhaps an attunement, don't ask me the prerequisites as I don't know. However, once those requirements are satisfied you would be eligible for gear dropping from the world on perhaps all of your characters, some of your characters, or something. I'm not sure what the answer is.

Leave the current loot tables alone inside of raids. If you can justify a piece of gear dropping from the world in certain areas, go for it.

An example of this happening could be Noth the Plaguebringer's ring dropping somewhere in Dalaran. He was a mage in Dalaran at one point. What if he lost it and a critter has it? You could say that the player needs to encounter Noth the Plaguebringer at least once. Otherwise, rings found on critters in Dalaran will be junk and sellable to vendors.
