Hello everyone!!

I am new to the idea of wanting to create my own private server just for fun. I have no intention on making money from it; i just want to learn whatever I can by solving problems using scripts/code.

Once the server; lets say 3.5 wotlk, is ready to go and launched, what are the first things that need fixed? Does everyone start out at each race and complete the 1-80 quests one-by-one until they find something that's broken? I know the gunship battle should be saved for last, but what else is broken? Played my new private server and realized Gunship battle is working fine! In 2018 it was not. It wouldn't even spawn.

Is there a list of things to fix or is this more of a hide-and-seek kind of thing (meaning I'll have to encounter bugs in order to find them)? I also understand that this could take YEARS, and I'm okay with that. I have a few ideas that could be interesting, and I would like to see if I can accomplish that.

There's probably things that still need to be refined of course. You just gotta run into issues or until someone reports an issue. Also, yeah, the gunship battle for the longest time wasn't working until they finally updated it awhile back.

This.

And, there are always some bugs with quest rewards and other tiny issues with a new server. So it's best to work on it on your own for awhile, and then do a beta release for people to test and find things you wouldn't have time to run through as a solo developer.

Having several people running through content will help you find things, and like said above.. GitHub can be a nice source to find issues before you even come across them on your version.
