perhaps scale back the discord? Remove a majority of the channels and that'll be that?

discord is already wipped once. rn the only active channels are general chat for some daily discussion and time to time drama channel. If you think people will come to forum to do their daily talks you are wrong.
it not those old times anymore that people spend time on forums for communicating. wowemu should adopt to current situation; people post their works and issue in forum and discord remains as a placec which keeps community close and in contact!
Be real, communication in discord is by faaaaaar better and faster that forum.
many people are not active anymore/left due to the Leaks regulation. Making discord anything less than what it is will kill wowemu imo.

does stiking to old forum format makes any sense?
its been years since i saw a forum be active like those old days. people look for better communication system. to get their answer as soon as possible.
just look at the time you replyed my msg, its almost 1 hour and 30 mins later. thats not where im going to ask in case i have an issue.
you dont need to remove all chat sections. you are communicating important stuffs here.
Today i saw some one asking for a solution for the problem he had with a quest. he got his answer with in few min.
If some one has urgent issue and is looking for a problem forum is not the place to check.

90% of emulation developers use discord for everything emulation forums are kind of just a place to post your stuff these days. In my opinion you should be focusing on the discord and integrating it as much as possible into your site rather than adding a chatbox and limiting the discord. The discord api is pretty generous. I got a feeling your idea will do nothing to change activity on the forum in the long term. But growing the discord community means more eyes that will possibly view the site. I understand your concern about activity which is my guess your main drive to making this decision. But its not you guys its the community no one is all that interested in sharing anymore. Everyone has learned its best to keep anything you plan to use close to your chest and with your policies on leaks here that likely deters some from even posting here. Cause if you allow leaks then you are basically saying its morally okay and a lot of people disagree with this. I feel all these issues combined are one of the main problems with activity but even if you changed these things forums are just the old way of doing things.. their just not as nice as discord being directly at our fingertips almost never goes down has majority of the functionality of a forum.

TLDR: I think you should embrace discord and try to further integrate it into the site and vice versus using the api rather than put it on a shelf.

A small update on this.
We'll change the requirement to access the chat box, you will need to have at least 25 Posts before you can access the chatbox.

Therefore, you'll not have to upgrade in order to have access. This is due to the fact, that if people who don't want to upgrade, still have the chance join us on the chat box.
In case the community votes for yes.

Note: We will monitor every post and eventually add a Spam System that alarms us when a low quality post was made (For example "thanks", "lol".. etc)

rn there are like 10-15 people active on wowemu (so far 11 people voted and its almost 50-50)? imagine doing this and make it seems less populated than it is.

You can add discord to the website and set the permission so people can chat using this widget for those who want to use chat in website.
In my case i didnt allow to chat. but its possible.

Getting more activity on the forums is not the reason for this change.
There are other reasons which I mentioned in my first post.

Also, this kind of discord widget is not an option, since it's literally nothing different than what we have now - A discord server.

I’d love to know who’s voting yes, honestly kinda shocked that anyone would vote yes. I personally believe this is would be a huge mistake, and anyone who thinks this would have an overall positive effect lacks critical thinking skills. I mean I could be wrong, and I could be the one who is lacking…

The only real reasoning for doing such would be activity on the website. Security isn’t a good reason imo, at least I haven’t thought of how it would be any more secure.

As for centralizing the community, I think that’s an okay idea until you realize that it would more than likely cause more harm than anything else.

I honestly think the main reason is someone wants to have more activity on the website and the other points were afterthoughts. I could be wrong but doesn’t matter, what matters is having a community and growing it. I don’t foresee how this could possibly be healthy. Discord is far superior than a chat box, there is a reason a majority or at least a lot of communities use discord. Using both would also be a big mistake, as it would only divide the community so it would have to be one or the other.

Before you vote yes, you should think on what you check more frequently, the website or discord. Granted it might change if it changed to a chat box, but even if it did do you think you would check the website more frequently than you currently check discord?

As for an actual solution to the issue, I would say one of 2 things.
A) leave it alone and keep it the way it is.
B) unsure if this is possible, but if it was you could make it so you could send / read messages in discord on the website. I’ve never messed with discord api or anything so unsure what is possible but could have a bot that sends the messages sent on the website. You could actually also limit it to a rank feature as well since it doesn’t prevent normal usage of discord chatting.
