Dear WoWEmu.org Members,

We hope this announcement finds you well. Recently, we had to deal with a leak situation on our forum where sensitive data, such as emails and passwords, were leaked due to someone sharing the MondWoW source. In light of this incident, we took the decision to forbid the posting of leaks that contain sensitive data to protect our community members' privacy.

However, we understand that leaks can sometimes provide valuable information, and we want to hear your thoughts on whether we should allow them or not. Therefore, we would like to start a discussion and a voting process among our members to decide whether we should allow leaks on the forum.

We value your opinion, and we ask that you share your thoughts and ideas with us in this forum discussion. If the majority of the members decide that leaks should be allowed, we will continue to do so with the added measure of forbidding leaks that contain sensitive data.

We believe that this is the best way to move forward while also ensuring the privacy and security of our community. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Additionally, we want to emphasize that one of the main reasons why wowemu was created in the first place was due to the lack of transparency that was present on other forums like ac-web. We understand the importance of transparency and openness in a community, which is why we are committed to hearing your opinions and taking your ideas into account when making decisions.

We believe that this approach will help us create a stronger and more supportive community, where every member feels valued and heard. We want to thank you for being a part of wowemu and for helping us make it the best it can be.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we look forward to hearing from you in the discussion.

Best regards,
The WoWEmu.org Administration

Personally, I believe so, yes. But only certain ones. Nothing private or confidential should be allowed.

In the case of a Private Server core, in most cases, open source projects such as TrinityCore fall under the GNU License, which states:
"The GNU GPL is the most widely used free software license and has a strong copyleft requirement. When distributing derived works, the source code of the work must be made available under the same license. "

This means that code leaks of an originally open source project (for example TrinityCore) still fall under Open Source licensing. Therefore, I believe they should be allowed.

Yes, but under new rules
Under the old rules, you weren't even allowed to release FGen modules that you updated because you weren't the original creator

This is absolutely stupid
Under the old rules, you could only upload stuff that was 20 years old

I feel like they should be allowed, just take action when it's serious like containing usernames & passwords.
Because when it actually hurts innocent people; and can be harmful for them - feel free to remove it.
But when it hurts one developer, or a server owner... I mean, you allowed your work to be stolen, trust no one, you've learned a lesson.
Surely we've all enjoyed a leak here or there.

Here's a leek.

We're working with a license that states the code should be open source. There can't be a leak in the traditional sense. Unless I'm misunderstanding it(I'm not a lawyer). Anything should be fair game. If you want to differentiate releases vs. leaks you should make a section dedicated to "leaks".

I agree that personal data, such as names, addresses, phone numbers and other private information should be removed, and it should be a banable offense imo. Other than that, I'm leaning towards allowing leaks. Simply because the whole scene exists because of it, according to ancient history. I believe that leaks help the scene as a whole move forward.

Firstly, it is important to consider the potential benefits and drawbacks of allowing leaks on the forum. On the one hand, leaks can provide valuable information and insights that may benefit the community. On the other hand, leaks can also compromise individuals' privacy and security, which is why you have decided to forbid leaks that contain sensitive data.

Secondly, it may be helpful to establish clear guidelines and criteria for what constitutes a leak that does not contain sensitive data. This will help ensure that any leaks that are allowed on the forum meet the community's expectations and standards.

Thirdly, you may want to consider the potential impact of allowing leaks on the forum's reputation and credibility. If leaks are not carefully vetted and moderated, they may attract negative attention from outside the community and harm the forum's reputation.

Finally, it is important to prioritize the privacy and security of the community members when making this decision. As you mentioned in your announcement, one of the main reasons why wowemu was created was due to the lack of transparency and openness on other forums, and it is crucial to maintain these values while also ensuring the safety of the community.

I hope these considerations are helpful in your decision-making process, and I wish you all the best in your discussion and voting process.

Perhaps put leaks in a queue for mods to manually approve?

My only problem with this is bias. Who's to say the code this person is leaking isn't managements? Seems a bit two-faced to say: "Yes, leaks are allowed, BUT NOT MY LEAKS!"
